Plaigne is a quiet pretty village dominated by the 12th century church and its bell tower (two of the bedrooms have fantastic views of this church which is lit up at night). The village cross is an ancient protected monument dating back over one thousand years – it has the ‘Cathar hand’ carved on the back.
At one time the village was home to over 2,000 inhabitants who mostly worked the land, when the village boasted a cafe and bar, restaurant, hotel, cobbler, post office, and of course the bakery! Today there are 129 inhabitants in the commune.
